When it comes to sleep you need to take life seriously, and choosing the perfect mattress is a big part of the picture. Our bedrooms should be warm and inviting; a pleasurable space designed to give you the maximum in relaxation and pleasure – and your bed is the main focal point of the room. Without a good, supportive and well sprung mattress you will notice a difference not only in your well-being, but also in how easily you manage to fall asleep. Bad mattresses mean bad health, and that's no good for anyone.

Mattress technology has changed through the ages, and we have come a long, long way from the days of sleeping on a straw filled sack. Nowadays the days of the traditional bed spring are numbered as a new range of space-age technology and memory foam takes over. The DreamCloud mattress is just one example of a brand new range of ultimately high tech mattresses... we can only surmise that it is a simple matter of time before they are incorporated with Wi-fi and Bluetooth speakers...

The DreamCloud falls into the modern category of 'Hybrid' mattresses. They are made of mixed layers of materials that are designed with the human form and optimal sleeping positions in mind, and promises to be the ultimate in mattress comfort... So let's take a closer look at the DreamCloud, and see if it meets up to its promises!

Comfort & Feel

DreamCloud boasts of being plush and luxurious; and have named their product for the clouds they think the mattress feels like when you sink in to it. There is no doubting that this is a high quality, technologically masterful product – but does it live up to the hype? We scoured the internet for user reviews to see what customers are saying.

While DreamCloud themselves advertise this as an ideal product for couples who have varying levels of firmness preference; consumers say this bed is a little firmer than they anticipated, and marked it down since it only comes in one firmness rating. In all honesty we struggled to find any other negative comments, and most consumers love the mattress for its ability to support sore hips, aching spines and for its luxury feel and affordability. The volume of claims that the mattress was similar to sleeping on a cloud far outweighed the one claim that the mattress was too firm. We give this mattress a 7.75 rating on the comfort scale.

The mattress itself has eight layers that culminate in a plush, memory foam backed cashmere surface. This layer is hand tufted, and when it comes to softness we all love a little cashmere!

We give the DreamCloud an exceptional 4.85/5 out of 5 for comfort and feel.

Motion Reduction

The high density latex and memory foam layers in this mattress make it supportive yet flexible. It doesn't sink as a regular memory foam mattress might do. Because it is a hybrid it still uses coils, but the many layers prevent popping or creaking at random times. The micro coil technology used is also coated in a layer of memory foam, allowing for bounce while absorbing any shock... quite ingenious, really.

We give the DreamCloud a 4.7 out of 5 for motion Reduction.

Off Gassing

As the DreamCloud is open and starts expanding quickly you will only notice a slight “new mattress” smell. “Off-Gassing” to me is a slightly misleading term, because no matter what brand you are looking at, they are going to have a smell. Natural and organic mattresses often times have the strongest smell, even though people associate them with no gassing. A smell is normal and no matter what brand you buy there will be some smell. I associate it with a new car or a new shoe smell. In most cases the smell will either be gone or very faint within 12-36 hours. I would recommend using a mattress protector; so once the mattress airs out you should apply your protector under your sheets, and by then there should barely be any smell at all.

We gave the DreamCloud a 4.8 out of 5 for off-gassing.

Temperature

This mattress has so many incorporated layers that perform multiple different functions – and one of those is a heat treated cotton pad with an infused gel layer that is specifically designed to work in conjunction with the Cashmere surface to keep you cool all night long. Traditionally memory foam mattresses do tend to get a bit heated during the night – but since this is a hybrid it manages to filter away most of the heat for you, leaving you with a “cool side of the pillow” feeling to your bed.

Interestingly, the producers of the DreamCloud offer a full year long trial period on their mattress, and that length of period allows you to try the mattress out during all four seasons to see if it is right for you. They offer a few other perks too, including a one off full cleaning service, a five year conditioning service and a lifetime guarantee.

We gave the DreamCloud a 4.83 out of 5 for sleeping temperature.

Edge Support

The DreamCloud team have actually done a wonderful design job here to support you from the middle to the very edge of your mattress. Again, their unique combination of latex, coils and memory foam allow for a firm grip as the material moulds to your body. Unlike the traditional spring mattress, a memory foam mattress tends to take a little while for the impression of the person who has put weight on it to fade. With the DreamCloud the mattress springs back into shape after only a few seconds, not conforming to the normal, your-shape-carved-into-the-mattress morning wake up. This means for extra comfort through the night as you naturally shift position.

Edge Support is particularly important to couples sharing smaller sized beds than Kings. If you are sleeping next to someone who has a tendency to take up all the space then you are pushed towards the edge of the bed – and a lack of support there might have you waking up on the floor! Because of the eight separately constructed layers in this mattress there is enough support throughout the design to keep you safely on the bed – and more importantly to allow you to have a comfortable nights sleep even if you are balanced on the edge. It is pretty normal for a mattress to lose edge support as the years go on – making the DreamCloud lifetime guarantee a particularly attractive feature to edge-sleepers.

Overall the Dreamcloud provides support from the centre to the very edge, and provides enough theoretical weight distribution technology that their one firmness type should fit all; but as mentioned before this is not always the case. However, the DreamCloud does score very highly among consumers as a product that provides support to people with aches and pains normally brought on by sleeping.

We scored the DreamCloud a 4.85 out of 5 for edge support.

Trial & Warranty

When it comes to trials and warranty DreamCloud offer some pretty top of the range deals. They try to advertise themselves as luxurious suppliers for affordable prices – and they live up to their reputation. When you buy this mattress you receive a full 365 day no-risk trial, meaning you can keep the bed for the whole year round before you buy it, if you so choose. This safety period means you can lie on the thing for a whole year just to see if it is right for you, and you can't really argue with that.

Secondly, the DreamCloud team offer a lifetime guarantee on this product, meaning that for as long as you own it. They call it the “Everlong” guarantee, and if anything happens to your mattress they will replace it. Companies that offer this kind of warranty show a high level of confidence in their product, and it hints that these mattresses were built to last. Not only will they replace it, they're confident that the mattress will not fail to support you from the first sleep to the last sleep. The Everlong guarantee is actually one of the best in the business because actually, there's not much more you can expect than a lifetime guarantee...

Thirdly they offer a free one-time conditioning service after a year of ownership, where they will come out and clean the mattress for you professionally. This service remains available thereafter but you will need to pay for future cleanings.

With all the perks of buying this mattress we felt it only fair to give it a high score.

Overall Value & Recommendation

Overall, we can't help but feel that this product must have some flaws somewhere – we just haven't been able to find any... One article did mention that the sleeper had found the quilted cashmere topping a little uncomfortable because the ridges between the fabric were so deep; but one has to question why she was sleeping on it without sheets in the first place, and so we let that one slide.

Customer Reviews

Jennifer B gives it five out of five:

“I never say things like this, but this is an elegant mattress. From the moment I laid down on it, I could tell that the DreamCloud was different than any I'd had before. It's memory foam base was pliable yet supportive. It made me think of sleeping on marshmallows, which might sound funny -- but it was totally true. Sleep always used to feel like a luxury to me, but now I know what true luxury feels like with a DreamCloud. I'm so happy with this mattress, perfect for snuggling while the snow is falling gently outside.”

While Patrick M says something similar to what we have already mentioned:

“It's great that DreamCloud has a full year trial, but the reality is you won't need it. After one week or even one night really I saw my sleep improve, my morning run was easier than ever, and I felt more energized going to work. The foams are really supportive and the cashmere is pretty comfortable - like wearing your favorite cashmere sweater to sleep each night.”

Patrick also gives it fives stars, and from what we can see we are reading this same story across the board!
